Meet Amy
Thanks for stopping in…
Amy is a proud East Tennessee native whose journey has taken her across the United States thanks to her service in the Army. The spirit of Aloha therapy was planted when Amy fell in love with Hawaii and the Hawaiian culture, sense of community, and support during one of her military assignments. With over 20 years of experience supporting the military, both as a service member and a military spouse, Amy has worn many hats throughout her career.
Her roles have included working stateside, deployment, and supporting family reintegration. She is a Gottman-informed counselor and brings a trauma-informed approach to her practice. Amy is also trained in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach and completed her internship with a parts-focused mindset.
Amy has a bachelor’s in psychology and a Minor in Social Science and Military Science from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She completed her graduate program at William & Mary for Clinical Mental Health Counseling, focusing on Military Veterans and Families. She was inducted into Chi Sigma Iota in April 2024. As a proud ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, Amy has completed the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender-Expansive Identities (SAIGE) Affirmative Counseling Training.
Currently serving as the Graduate Assistant to the President-Elect of SAIGE, Amy is passionate about advocating for the neurodivergent community.
She continued her professional development through EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing training, and became an EMDRIA-trained therapist to further enhance her ability to support clients in their healing journeys.
Outside of her professional life, Amy spends time with her family, including her four children, two of whom are differently abled. This deepens her dedication to advocate for the neurodivergent community. Amy shares her home with two adorable fur babies and enjoys exploring new restaurants and spending time by the water whenever possible.
Amy’s experience, dedication, compassionate, and integrative approach to therapy make her a trusted and supportive guide for those navigating life’s challenges, particularly those within or supporting the military and communities with differing abilities.

Walk and Talk Therapy involves individuals meeting with a mental health professional, such as a therapist or counselor, to engage in a therapeutic conversation while walking outdoors. This method leverages the natural environment to promote relaxation and enhance well-being. Additionally, it encourages physical activity, which is widely recognized for its mental health benefits, as reducing stress and improving mood. A session of Walk and Talk Therapy integrates physical activity with therapeutic dialogue, creating a distinctive and effective approach to therapy. Typically, client and therapist meet at a predetermined outdoor location, often in a natural setting like a park or scenic trail.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a structured therapy that addresses emotional responses, reduces distress, and changes the vividness of the emotions tied to traumatic events. It is a well-studied therapy used to treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and other mental health conditions. You can click here to watch a video that explains what EMDR Therapy is.

Professional Recommendations
Insurance
Please note that I am currently an “Out-of-Network (OON) Provider.” Seeing an OON provider for therapy offers clients numerous benefits. Your privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance. I value your privacy and can provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, and confirming space where you can share and heal at your own pace and on your own terms. Unlike insurance providers, I don’t limit sessions, require a diagnosis, delay your care, or determine what and how we conduct your therapy.
Clients have greater control over their therapy experience, allowing them to prioritize their specific needs and goals while receiving reimbursement for fees from their insurance company.
If I am the right fit for you, and you would like to use your insurance it will be up to you to check with your insurance plan to review its coverage for OON benefits. If you can receive reimbursement, many insurance plans cover up to 80-90% of the fees, making my sessions comparable to a copay. However, it’s always best to check with your insurance plan before service. You will receive a “superbill” for submission to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
This can be something we explore further during your consultation or intake session. My goal is to ensure you receive the therapy you deserve, while upholding the utmost client confidentiality and clinical autonomy, which I can provide as an OON provider.
Many people use the Reimbursify or Mentaya app to simplify submitting their insurance claims and receiving OON benefits.
